The first sushi appeared in the 8th century, but it was different from what we know today. Fish was covered with fermented rice and salt and left for several months. Fermented rice didn’t let the fish spoil. After some time, the rice was thrown away and the fish was eaten. Only in the beginning of the 19th century did sushi become how we know it today.
Bonus: the tables of 6, 7, 8, and 9
If it’s hard for you to memorize multiplying tables, there is shortcut you can use that works with 6, 7, 8, and 9.
First, ascribe the values to the fingers.
Put together the fingers whose values you need to multiply.
Now count the touching fingers and the ones below them. In our example, the touching fingers are 7 and 8, so there are 5 fingers below them. This will be tens (50 in our example.)
Multiply the remaining numbers. In our case, 3 fingers on one hand and 2 on the other (3×2 = 6.)
Count the result (50 + 6 = 56.)
