Everybody loves to point out all the unusual or ugly fish in the world’s bodies of water, but there are also some spectacular specimens out there, too. We’re going to celebrate the vivid colors and cool patterns some fish have by including them in this list of breathtaking fish.
1. Clownfish
Likely forever known as Nemo now to some people because of the movie, Finding Nemo, there’s no doubt this fish deserves a spot on the list. The bright color of the fish, along with those stunning, thick white bands, make this one of the most easily recognizable fish out there.
2. Mandarinfish
This stunning fish has so many tiny, beautiful details that you can’t take it all in when you first look at it.
3. Clown Triggerfish
4. Betta Fish
This freshwater fish has various varieties, like the blue half-moon betta fish. This awe-inspiring fish is highly prized because of its spectacular fan-like tail that makes it look insanely regal and graceful in the water.
5. Lionfish
Lionfish are a problem in the Gulf of Mexico because they are an invasive species, extremely fast breeders, and voracious eaters. Think of these venomous fish as the rabbits of the sea. Even with all the havoc they are causing, they are undeniably beautiful.
6. Butterflyfish
Tropical fish like the butterflyfish make you want to smile.
Some of these species sport bright colors like yellow, red, orange, and blue. They are so beautiful, with their eye-catching shades and delicate mouths, that they’ve become a popular fish for aquariums.
7. Angelfish
Another popular aquarium fish, angelfish have great patterns and colors. But it may be their unique triangular fin shapes that set them apart from other fish. A freshwater fish, angelfish come from South America. These freshwater fish look nothing like the less spectacular marine angelfish that can be found in shallow reefs.
8. Seahorse
Instantly recognizable, there is something so graceful and gorgeous about seahorses. The cuteness factor skyrockets with these fish because they love to swim with a partner so they can link their tails together. That’s simply adorable. Unfortunately, while we love their unique shape, it makes them inefficient swimmers. If they swim in choppy, stormy conditions, they can die of exhaustion.
9. Killifish
Another excellent aquarium fish, people love to watch this one, and with good reason. One variation of this fish has a strikingly blue body covered by bold red spots. But our favorite might be the black pearl killifish. Sadly, they have an extremely short lifespan.
